Beautiful Sikkim – It’s really an Hidden Gem…

“I felt as if I had stumbled upon a hidden gem, a place that had been largely untouched by the modern world…”

As soon as my feet touched the pristine land of Sikkim, a wave of refreshing air caressed me, carrying with it a sweet, crisp aroma that instantly captivated my senses. Having grown up in a bustling metro city, I was mesmerized by the warm embrace of nature, as if it was welcoming me with open arms. The clean and breezy wind wrapped around me like a luxurious silk scarf, leaving me utterly flattered and breathless. It was a surreal moment, as if I had stepped into a whole new world, one where beauty and tranquility reign supreme. From its snow-capped mountains to its lush green forests, and from its charming towns to its beautiful monasteries, Sikkim had everything to offer that a traveler could ask for.

My journey began with a flight to Bagdogra, from where I took a taxi to Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim. The journey to Gangtok was filled with breathtaking views of the Teesta River and the mountainous landscape. As I reached Gangtok, I was greeted with cool, fresh mountain air and a warm smile from the locals. I was struck by the warmth and hospitality of its people. Despite the challenges of living in such a remote and rugged landscape, the people of Sikkim are incredibly friendly and welcoming. They take great pride in their culture and heritage, and they are eager to share it with visitors.

Gangtok is a picturesque town with a blend of traditional and modern architecture. The town is surrounded by towering mountains that give a panoramic view of the entire city. The bustling marketplaces, quaint cafes, and lively streets make Gangtok an ideal place to wander around.

The next day, I set out to explore the nearby attractions. My first stop was the Enchey Monastery, a serene and peaceful place with a rich cultural heritage. The vibrant colors, intricate designs, and the sound of the prayer bells made me feel at peace.

After that, I visited the Namgyal Institute of Tibetology, a museum and research center that houses an extensive collection of Tibetan artifacts, including rare manuscripts, ancient texts, and thangkas (Tibetan silk paintings).

The highlight of my trip was the visit to the Tsomgo Lake, a high-altitude lake located at an altitude of 12,400 feet above sea level. The lake was a sight to behold with its crystal-clear waters and the snow-capped mountains in the backdrop. I also took a yak ride around the lake, which was an unforgettable experience.

Another must-visit place in Sikkim is the Nathula Pass, located on the Indo-China border. The pass offers stunning views of the snow-capped mountains and the rugged terrain. The experience of standing at the border and looking across the barbed wire fence to the other side was surreal.

Sikkim is also famous for its hot springs, and I made sure to visit the Yumthang Hot Spring, which is believed to have medicinal properties. The hot spring is surrounded by lush green forests and offers a perfect retreat for tired muscles.

In conclusion, Sikkim is truly a hidden gem that offers a unique blend of natural beauty, cultural heritage, and adventure. The people are friendly, the food is delicious, and the landscapes are awe-inspiring. I left Sikkim with a heavy heart, promising to come back again to explore more of this enchanting land.
